Eyelid Plastic Surgery

The eyes are the first facial feature people observe and unfortunately they are also one of the first to show the signs of ageing. Ageing is an irreversible, relentless process of tissue degeneration resulting in loss of elasticity and stretching of the skin.

Whilst the eyes themselves are expressionless, the eyelids are very important indicators of our emotions. When heavy and baggy they portray a tired look; if hooded with loose skin, an aged look; if elongated and almond shaped with a smooth contour, a fresh youthful look.

Upper blepharoplasty is surgery to reduce the excess skin of the upper eyelids. This can be functional in nature, as when this is severe enough, it can obscure the eyesight by the excess skin pushing on the edges of the upper lids, and then potentially obscuring vision indirectly. It can also be performed to restore a more youthful crispy look to the upper lids. It is generally a low risk and simple procedure.

Lower blepharoplasty is surgery on the lower eyelids to reduce excess skin, and to reduce eyebags. This is technically a more involved procedure than upper eyelid reduction, and does involve rarer but more significant potential risks. There are two main techniques for performing this, depending on the main goals of the procedure, and whether there is significant excessive skin to be reduced or not.
